NO MORE EMAILS FROM HEALTH EVERYWHERE!!

In an effort to minimize the number of emails in your inboxes, I've created a Google Group for Health Everywhere. I will be using it to post messages to the group, as well as global health opportunities. The page also includes a Calendar with meeting dates, deadlines for applying for scholarships and programs, etc. Even if you are not a member of Health Everywhere, you may wish to join the group to keep up to date on global health conferences and opportunities. If you like getting email updates, you can request to receive an email when there are new postings to the Google Group. Alternatively, anyone can join the CFMS Global Health listserve. Just go to www.cfms.org, and click on "join our mailing list" under the global health tab.

You don't need a Gmail account to join, but you do need a Google account. Just go to Google, select create an account, and you can use your preferred e-mail account. Once you've created your Google account, click on groups, search for "Health Everywhere", and request to join. Done!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send me an email.

BBIF: Delicious Dinner, Interesting Information

The Health Science Students Association presents the 12th annual Building Bridges Interdisciplinary Forum (BBIF):
Health Quality Council on Quality Improvement and you: why it matters to us as future health professionals. "Staying as Energized 14,465 Days From Now as You are Today: Quality Improvement & You"

When: Thursday, March 26th, 2009
Cocktails @ 5PM, Supper @ 6PM
Where: Louis Restaurant and Bar
Only 100 tickets are available - available through your colleges HSSA reps (Shandy or Emily), Place Riel Kiosk, or by emailing uofs.hssa@hotmail.com
$15 per ticket for meal and presentation (subsidized by your HSSA)

WAIT WHAT IS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT?!
Good question, I also had no idea. When a patient gets the wrong diagnosis, is given the wrong test results, or gets the wrong kidney surgically removed, that's when quality improvement steps in. QI is basically there to make sure that none of the shocking, heart wrenching, crazy, awful things that make those health care shows you love so great (Grey's, ER, House, not particularly in that order) happen in real life.
So come down for a great meal and to learn how to not ruin the lives of your future patients!
See you there,
Emily and Shandy

Class of 2011 blog begins

Hey everyone, so this is my first attempt (under Lei's generous guidance) at posting a blog. Lei had created a blog for his first year class and it seems to be very popular. So not that we are copying the first years...but here is the first attempt at a blog for our class.

I will be looking for other interested individuals who would like to contribute to the blog and suggestions for what you would like included.

The link for our blog is fife2011.blogspot.com and the first year's blog is fife2012.ca . If we want to change our blog to a ".ca" site I believe it costs $15. Or we can change the name to something unique to our class.

Enjoy!!
